Early Childhood Screening

Early Childhood Screening is a free and simple check of how your child is growing, developing, and learning. This screening includes a review of height, weight, vision, hearing, speech, social and emotional progress and overall development.
The best age for screening is 3 years but screening may be done between age 3 and the start of Kindergarten. This screening is mandated by the State of MN.

There is NO charge for an Early Childhood Screening.

After School Enrichment Program and Fitness Center

After School Enrichment Program
Community Education is now offering an after school enrichment program for students in grades 6-12. In this program students will have the opportunity to:
  • *Have a safe place to hangout in between school and evening activities
  • *Get help with homework
  • *Get help studying for tests
  • *Have time and support to work on projects
  • *Enrichment activities will be added as the program grows
Here are the dates for the after school program:
January 23, 24, 29, 31
February 1, 5, 7, 14, 15, 21, 22, 26, 28
March 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28

The hours are 3:30-5:30 p.m. all of these days except Wednesdays. The Wednesday hours are 2:30-5:30 p.m.
Students will need to sign up in the school office each day.

Fitness Center
The Fitness Center will be open to students on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays starting Wednesday, January 24.
On Mondays and Thursdays the hours are 3:30-7:30 p.m.
On Wednesdays the hours are 2:30-6:30 p.m.
There will be a fitness center attendant who can help students with the equipment as well as supervise the center.

Students must be 13 years or older in order to participate. They must comply with the expectations of the Fitness Center, and sign the necessary paperwork. This paperwork is available in the school office and Community Ed office.
Students will need to sign up in the school office on the days they want to stay and use the Fitness Center. There will be a limit of 10 students per day.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Applicants Wanted: Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is in the midst
of a targeted recruitment campaign aimed at attracting individuals with a strong STEM background for a highly selective summer program, the
TEACh Strong Summer Academy.  This summer immersion program will prepare participants to become excellent STEM teachers.

In its continued commitment to impact the academic achievement of the students in its highest need schools, M-DCPS will afford those selected the following opportunities:

         ♦ Participation in an intensive six-week summer training (May 30th – July 12th) consisting of enrichment programs, hands-on work experience             and a comprehensive professional development curriculum
         ♦ Access to mentor teachers and additional support from District Curriculum Support Specialists (CSS)

Immersion in this summer training experience will prepare program participants to make an immediate impact on the students they will serve, and the ongoing professional development and other support opportunities will continue to strengthen their performance as educators throughout the course of the school year and beyond.

Participants will receive a $3,500 stipend to be paid in two equal parts of $1,750 each.  First payment will be issued upon successful completion of initial three (3) weeks of the training, and a second installment upon successful completion of the full six (6) weeks.*

Minimum requirements:

         ♦ Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field
         ♦ No prior teaching experience as teacher of record in a K-12 classroom
         ♦ Completion of M-DCPS employment application (see link below)
         ♦ Commitment to full six-week summer academy
         ♦ Commitment to teach in a M-DCPS high-need secondary school
         ♦ Commitment to taking and passing all sections of the General Knowledge Test (GKT) and applying to the FLDOE for certification prior to
            full-time (FT) hire – not required for acceptance to program

Associates who successfully complete this six-week program and have met all M-DCPS pre-employment requirements, will be hired into FT teaching positions with the District.
